Deng Jun was born in April 2001. On January 19, 2008, he was home alone as a coal stove burned to keep the dwelling warm. The stove malfunctioned and as a fire started Deng Jun was incapacitated by carbon monoxide fumes and unable to escape. He suffered second and third degree burns over 38% of his lower body. Deg Jun has been treated at several hospitals, undergone many surgeries and received a prosthetic leg with the support of HandReach.
