Guanzhuang Project

2008 was a special year for HandReach because of the massive earthquake in Sichuan Province on May 12. The HandReach Board of Directors decided to concentrate our funds this year on providing needed supplies for a school in a very remote area that had been devastated by the earthquake and was out of reach of formal earthquake relief efforts. In July 2008, HandReach's Project Coordinator in Chengdu, Mr. Ouyang Xiaodong, was accompanied by HandReach Board member, Luo Yi, to personally deliver school supplies to the school at Guanzhuan Town, Qingchuan County. Thanks to generous support from HandReach donors, the school is now functioning again after the Sichuan Earthquake.

We did shopping and carried the donation from CHI/Hand Reach to Guanzhuang Middle School after two weeks on July 14th, 2008.

Arrival on July 14th.

July 14th with Mr. Yang and the teachers, the prefabricate house are the temporary classrooms. They’ll probably stay in this “temporary classroom” for future years.

The girl came with her mother to the site of their original home, for the 7th memorial ceremony (once at every 7th day by tradition for death). Her father was being still in the house, 50 meters under her feet. The slides made 20,000,000 cubic meters earth and rocks piled in the original valley.
